Jako czołowy przedstawiciel muzyki czeskiej w XVIII-wiecznym Wiedniu Leopold Kozeluch (1747–1818) był znany przede wszystkim jako kompozytor, pianista i nauczyciel gry na instrumentach klawiszowych. Jego 50 sonat obejmuje całą karierę i zaznacza nie tylko przejście od stylu klawesynu i klawikordu do w pełni idiomatycznego stylu fortepianowego, ale także rozwój „klasycznej sonaty”, która trwała kilka dekad (od 1773 do 1809 roku).
Do tej pory pianiści nie mieli okazji zapoznać się z pełną gamą sonat Kozelucha, ponieważ niewiele istniało we współczesnych wydaniach. Po raz pierwszy ta nowa kompletna edycja autorstwa Christophera Hogwooda prezentuje wszystkie sonaty solo na instrumenty klawiszowe. W sumie będą cztery tomy, a prace zostaną przedstawione chronologicznie. Tom IV zawiera także sonaty, które można znaleźć tylko w źródłach rękopisów.
